In order to obtain a library card to check out materials, you must have a valid military ID and complete a simple application. There is no cost for the card.

The Ellsworth Library has a collection of DVDs (both recreational and educational), and there is a special children's collection of videos. Users may check out 7 items for 7 days. The library has recorded audio books. These may be checked out for a 2 week period, the same as regular books. There is a special collection of audio books for children, some with read-along books.

The Holbrook Library sends the first overdue notice to the individual. The second notice will be sent to the sponsors first sergeant or place of employment. The third and subsequent notices will be forwarded to the sponsor's unit commander. Overdue notices are sent to the physical and e-mail addresses on record. Users must keep information current, or accounts will be deactivated. Material are government property and must be returned based on the established loan period, and lost or damaged materials must be replaced. Interlibrary loan (ILL) materials are loaned based on the loaning library's policies.


The library has computers for mission and education support as well as personal use. Downloading and installing of programs is not allowed, due to security, licensing, and virus considerations. Printing is currently free, but we ask that you limit printing to comply with our print policy (10 pages per user). All patrons must have a valid identification card and library card in their possession.

Fax and copier services are not currently offered through the Holbrook Library, but are available at Arts & Crafts.

Yes. You can renew your books through our online E-Catalog. You must renew your item before it is overdue. Once the item is overdue, you must bring the items to the library for renewal. Accounts must be in good standing in order to renew, checkout materials, and utilize computers. DVDs cannot be renewed. DVDs must be brought in to the library and may be checked out again if there are no holds on the items.

Yes. It usually takes about 1-2 weeks to receive materials from other libraries. Please call (605-385-1688) or stop into the library for more information about Interlibrary Loans.

Yes. Books may be checked out for 2 weeks with the option to renew twice if no other patrons have the material on hold. In addition to these books, the general nonfiction collection of the library supports basic information covered within the test preparation guides. Also, there is access to a website that assists learners with test preparation-- Peterson's online. The Peterson's website can be accessed in our Research (button at top) area.

The library offers in-person reference services utilizing print resources and offering assistance in accessing online resources. Some of these online services include: Jane's Online, EBSCO Auto Repair, various Galenet databases, SIRS for social issues, CountryWatch, and others. Some databases can also be accessed from home. Please see our Research area (button at top) for online resources.

Yes, in addition to library purchases we carry a subscription to Baker & Taylor Books. This provides the library with a continually updated monthly selection of current titles for books, DVDs, and Audio Books.

Netlibrary e-books provides free full-text access to over 6,000 online fiction and nonfiction books from your home or office computer after you sign up using the computer at the library. Please access Netlibrary through our Research button. Also, Project Gutenburg provides access to free e-books in the public domain. The link for Project Gutenburg is in our Links area under the Readers subheading, links are in the left hand margin.

Little Warriors Story Time is available at 1100 on Thursdays (except holidays and during the weeks of Christmas and New Year's) from October through May. The Summer Reading Program provides reading opportunities for patrons of all ages during June and July.

The library receives many weekly and monthly periodicals. Daily newspapers include the Rapid City Journal, and weekly newspapers include Air Force Times and Army Times.

The library carries Federal tax forms and some tax publications. Additionally, staff members can assist in locating forms on the Internet. CLICK HERE for the IRS link.

Active duty and their family members, retirees, DOD civilian employees, contractors, and students taking classes at the Base Education Center are permitted to use the library and all of its resources.

You can place most items (exception: movies and reference materials) on hold online, by phone, or in person. We will notify you by phone or e-mail when the item(s) become available.

All library materials may be renewed, with the exception of DVDs and items currently on hold by another patron. Renewals may be done in person, online, or by phone: (605)-385-1688. Please note that overdue items cannot be renewed online—you must call or stop into the library in this case. Renewals of Interlibrary loan (ILL) materials must be coordinated through the ILL Department (605)-385-1687. We request 7 days notice before the due date to renew interlibrary loan materials. We have no control over whether or not a library chooses to extend your due date for these materials.

Of course! However, for the safety of your children, no child under the age of 10 can be left unsupervised in the library. There are books, games, and stuffed animals for children's ammusment in the Children's Area. Children may also utilize Safari Land with adult supervision. 

Cellular phones may be used in Safari Land Hallway or inside Safari Land and at reasonable levels of volume. Please do not use cellular phones while at the computers. If you need to talk to someone (example: customer service) while online, we can make special accommodations.
