What gate should I use to enter the base with my RV?
The only gate that is open 24 hours is the Liberty Gate. For larger RV’s/Fifth wheels, we recommend utilizing the Commercial Gate. However, the Commercial Gate is only open Monday through Friday form 0800-1800 and does not support visitor passes. If you need to sponsor someone on base, you MUST go to the visitor center located at the Patriot Gate. For questions, their phone number 605-385-1000 opt 3.
Is Fam Camp RV park located on the Air Force base?
Yes, and you must have base access to make reservations. If you are not sure if you can gain access to the base, please call the visitors center at 605-385-1000, opt 1000.
What are you site sizes?
We have 21 pull-through sites that are 70 ft, and 30 back-in sites that range from 51ft to 68ft. All of our sites are about 12ft wide.
What amenities do you offer?
All 51 sites have 30/50-amp power, sewage, and water. The park has a reception center, free Wi-Fi, a dog run, and bathhouse with free laundry on site.
What directions should I use to navigate to your location?
We recommend searching for the Ellsworth Air and Space Museum and using the direction this provides. If you use Ellsworth AFB for directions, it may take you to a gate that is not open. The only gate open 24/7 is the main gate aka., the Liberty Gate.
Can I have a fire pit at my campsite?
Due to high winds and dry fire conditions, we only allow propane fire pits at your site.
How long can I stay at the Fam Camp RV park?
You can make a reservation for up to 30 days at a time. Our operation instructions require a quest to depart for a day and they resume their stay not to exceed 180 days in a calendar year. You can call to inquire about a waiver to this policy.
Are pets allowed in your campground?
Yes, pets are allowed. However please refer to the Ellsworth Air Force Base Pet policy. Please see below for the pet policy. Most aggressive breeds are prohibited.
How far in advance can I make a reservation?
You can make reservations up to six months out. For example, we take reservations on December 1st for the entire month of June the following year.
What is near your location to visit/see?
We are generally within one hour or so from most known tourist attractions i.e., The Badlands, Mount Rushmore, Custer State park, as well as most destinations in the Black Hills of South Dakota.
Do I need a helmet when entering and exiting the base on my motorcycle?
Yes, you must have proper PPE to gain access to the installation. This includes a bicycle when riding around base.
